Beltrami County Commissioner District 5

County commissioners are the county s key policymakers. They oversee the administration of the county, set county budget, and participate in county long-range planning. County services that they oversee include a wide variety of social service and welfare programs, as well as certain public health programs. I would focus on safety, infrastructure and budget restraints. 1. Budget. Number one priority that solves most other issues. 2. Roads and infrastructure. Long range planning to keep up our roads and infrastructure ultimately leads to best use of tax dollars 3. Security. Proper funding of our sheriff’s department to ensure the public safety.
The best way to address affordability is by cutting regulations that affect housing construction. Keeping the barriers low, keeps costs of construction low which encourages more construction which ultimately leads to more affordable housing.
State and Federal legislation sets voting regulations. The County Auditor oversees the elections in the county. I don’t believe that the current voting regulations create any barriers to freedom to vote.
The biggest challenge to a county commissioner is budgeting for unfunded mandates from State and Federal regulations that must be carried out by the county.
There probably aren’t any services currently provided by the county that aren’t already considered essential. However, as a county commissioner I would investigate all services and propose eliminating any that aren’t essential to preserve those that are.
