St. Michael City Mayor

The role of city mayor can vary from city to city. However, the mayor is usually the head of the city and may represent the city in front of other government bodies. A mayor also usually has a role in proposing a city budget that is approved by the city council. The budget influences the services the city provides to its residents. Mayors sometimes are voting members of city council, and in some cities the mayor is in charge of city council meetings.

I have been the St. Michael Mayor for nearly two years now and during that time St. Michael has had a highly functional City Council and City Staff. City debt has decreased by millions of dollars, St. Michael has had one of the lowest, if not the lowest, tax rates of cities in Wright County, outstanding City services have been maintained and we have an awesome new Town Center Park. I have fostered and maintained excellent working relationships with our Federal, State and County elected officials. I served a 4-year term as a Councilman prior to being elected Mayor and served on the Planning & Zoning Commission. I worked six budget cycles and every year we had a balanced budget with only a modest levy increase.
1) Promote and encourage commercial and industrial businesses through proper planning and good working relationships. This will provide jobs, services and help with the tax base. 2) Execute a fiscally responsible balanced budget with a modest levy increase to keep taxes low while maintaining excellent city services. 3) Plan for the future - properly fund long range capital equipment replacement plans for the Fire Department and Public Works and upgrade our Waste Water Treatment Facility.
St. Michael contracts with the Wright County Sheriff’s Department for law enforcement services. We have a great working relationship with Sheriff Deringer and the officers who patrol St. Michael and we will maintain that strong relationship. Alert and active residents are the best source for reporting suspicious activity. We will work with the Sheriff’s Department to promote and encourage citizen engagement – this will not only help report suspicious activity but also deter crime.
