In this make or break moment, we must work together to harness the power of us to build a state where everyone thrives with no exceptions. I will continue the work to defend and strengthen our democracy by expanding the freedom to vote, and protecting our elections and elections officials from interference, intimidation and disinformation. I will prioritize creating an economy that works for working people by fighting wage theft while strengthening the power of workers and their collective power in the workplace. I will work for a budget that fully funds public education, ensures access to affordable child care, housing, healthcare, and reproductive care, addresses the climate crisis and tackles the racial inequality holding our state back.
Democracy and how it shows up in our elections, workplaces, and community, is under attack. As a voting rights lawyer, I’ve spent the last decade fighting to protect people-powered democracy. I authored and continue to champion the Democracy for the People Act (HF 9), bold pro-voter legislation to strengthen the freedom to vote, ensure that people, not corporations, are calling the shots, and protect Minnesota’s proud tradition of voter access and trusted local election administration.
Minnesota must act to address the devastating racial disparities that are holding our state back. To build an economy and democracy where everyone is respected and thrives, we need an equity lens and structures that increase participation and power of communities to make decisions over the policies that impact their lives. I support policies that will advance equity and reduce racial disparities in education, employment, housing, healthcare access, wages, and criminal justice reform.
To create an economy that works for all Minnesotans, we must strengthen the collective power of workers and communities in the workplace, our economy and our democracy. Big corporations and billionaires have concentrated immense wealth and power, while working people have seen their wages remain flat and costs rise. We must reverse this trend and ensure all families have access to affordable healthcare, childcare, housing and ensure the wealthy pay their fair share.
There is a future free from the trauma and scourge of gun violence if we are willing to work together and build it. I agree with the majority of Minnesotans who are asking us to act to address the epidemic of gun violence that jeopardizes the safety of our kids and communities. I support common-sense gun laws like universal background checks, secure storage laws, and red flag/extreme risk protection laws along with evidence-based public safety and community violence intervention programs.
