Minnesota students, pre-K - post-secondary, deserve the very best public education with high-quality teachers who reflect the growing diversity of our students and communities. I support legislation that funds the urgent needs now and near future, putting resources where they will have the best outcomes for our students. Climate change is a real threat to the world and close to home, here in Minnesota. I support legislation that moves us to a future that is sustainable for all Minnesotans no matter where they live and toward 100% clean energy by protecting our land, air, and water. There is no freedom more fundamental than the freedom to vote. I will work to ensure all Minnesotan's voting rights.
The attack and lies on the validity of election outcomes in 2020 has been the most harmful effort to undermine our elections in our nation’s history. I will fight against any efforts to restrict voters’ access to the ballot box, to undermine election administrators’ ability to administer free and fair elections and put in safeguards to make it impossible to sabotage post-election processes to subvert election results.
The problem of systemic racial, ethnic dis-proportionality, and disparity has to be formulated into implementing sound, achievable solutions. Legislators can direct state agencies to evaluate their systems to identify where and how disparities are occurring, mandate agency education and practices that use an anti-racist approach and break down the systemic practices that enable communities, particularly those from marginalized communities, to achieve their full potential.
I will champion more resources for job training programs, equity programming, and business development assistance. It is imperative that we continue efforts for both veterans and immigrants and refugees in breaking down barriers to employment and entrepreneurial efforts. We must support the Inflation Reduction Act to lower prescription drug, health care, & energy costs. Future legislation must lift up our workers and help create good-paying, union jobs across the state.
We must take a comprehensive approach to reducing gun violence that includes support for evidence-based violence intervention programs that engage all community stakeholders. I support requirements for background checks for all handgun sales, removal of restrictions on public health research into gun violence that has left us intentionally ignorant about the full scope of gun violence and the ability to develop effective prevention interventions.
