I’ll advocate for our most vulnerable neighbors by committing to improvements in health & human services. My 20 years in the nonprofit disabilities field has shown me that legislators have a direct impact on the quality of life of those in need. I’ll prioritize public safety and work diligently to ensure Minnesotans receive safe, high-quality services. As a former deputy, I know how tough police work is. I aim to provide first responders with the supports and tools they need to perform their jobs safely. When we take care of the people who serve us, they can more safely serve our communities. I’ll protect human rights like safe reproductive healthcare and marriage equality, and work to ensure our institutions are free from discrimination.
I support equitable access to polling places and absentee ballots so people from all walks of life can exercise the critical right to participate in democracy. I support the right of those with served sentences to vote. I support current law allowing those experiencing housing insecurity to vote. I view most proposed voter ID laws as barriers to those without the means to collect or possess documentation. I support measures to prevent fraudulent voting to protect the integrity of our democracy.
I believe things like healthcare, a clean environment, safe and affordable housing, access to healthy food, and access to transportation are crucial to ensure Minnesotans thrive. I recognize disparities that continue to exist because of past discriminatory practices (such as redlining). I support legislation that strives to undo this harm and promotes equitable access to the housing, jobs, education, and services people need.
I support workers’ rights to collectively bargain, which ensure hardworking Minnesotans thrive and have the resources to support local business. Contracted state work should be completed by Minnesotans to the greatest extent possible to keep earnings within our own state’s economy. I support legislation to prevent price gouging and hold corporations accountable to false claims of low supply. I support increasing Minnesota’s workforce by welcoming new residents wishing to contribute to our state.
I support the 2nd Amendment. We have a serious gun violence issue and until we act, we’ll continue to be devastated by loss of life. Common-sense gun laws are needed. I support increasing waiting periods and background check requirements for gun purchases and eliminating loopholes that put guns in the hands of criminals. Fewer guns lead to safer encounters for police officers. We also need to ensure Minnesotans have rapid, cost-free access to mental health services that reduce violent actions.
