My top priorities are 1) Addressing the Needs of Families (Affordable and Accessible Childcare, Affordable Healthcare, Paid Family/Medical Leave and Affordable Housing); 2) Education (Fair Tax Burdens for communities in Greater MN, Fully Funded Public School programming from Early Childhood through Grade 12, and Affordable College and Career Training); 3) Support for Small Businesses and Family Farms.
Minnesota voters should have the ability to vote via "no excuse" absentee ballots, easy access to and submission of early and absentee voting, conveniently-located ballot drop boxes and accessibly-located polling stations. In an ideal world, all eligible voters would be automatically registered to vote and Rank Choice Voting would provide greater guarantees that the will of the majority prevails in fair and free elections.
Undocumented individuals should be eligible for obtaining a driver's license--thereby ensuring they can obtain accident insurance and are certified as a qualified driver. In addition, I believe greater safeguards need to be enacted that prohibit racial profiling and closer scrutiny of people of color by police. Gun violence and the need for abortion represents a greater need in communities of color. The MN Legislature needs to address and clarify laws that address these needs.
Minnesota can improve its economy and address inflation by investing in the needs of its families--especially initiatives that enable two parents to participate in the workforce through increased child care options and universal pre-K; by promoting free/affordable college and career training as a way to strengthen the workforce and by initiatives that improve supply chain issues (like incentives for truck driving careers) and avoiding tax cuts which disproportionately benefit the wealthy.
I support responsible access to firearms including a ban on high capacity ammunition clips, assault rifle ownership by private individuals and a better background check system--including Red Flag Laws with real teeth.
