Why are you the best candidate for this position? (750 characters)

If elected, what will your top three priorities be and why? (500 characters)

How will you work with your community to promote public safety in our neighborhoods? (500 characters)

I have called North Oaks home for over 36 years, and am thankful for such a beautiful community for my wife and I to live in and raise our son. I have served on the City Planning Commission since 2019 (Chair since 2020). As Chair, I oversaw several major development projects and the Comprehensive Plan. I was elected to two terms on NOHOA, serving four years as President. I oversaw a budget equivalent to the City, engaged in long-term planning by developing a Roads Study and Asset Study, and completed construction of a major new Community Center. I am an attorney with over 25 years representing public entities. I welcome resident input with respect, consider the concerns of all interested parties, and make reasoned, rational decisions.
1. Safety and security is a primary concern, including effective policing, trespassing and traffic control. 2. Management of land development requires compliance with development agreements, natural resource protection, orderly completion, and productive relationships. 3.Climate change initiatives, including resilient community priorities (water resources, infrastructure / stormwater management, building codes and policies, continuity of operations, climate-ready trees and tree cover, wetlands).
Prevention of crime and promoting safety begins with public education and a sense of unity between law enforcement and the community. It includes understanding expectations as to safety, reliable and transparent sharing of data and statistics, accessibility of city officials and regular engagement with the public, training and modern equipment, and partnering with neighboring cities and the state on innovative policing initiatives. Cybersecurity also remains an objective to protect citizens.

I've demonstrated responsiveness to community interests:1) listening, then championing, planning, + passing a speed limit change for Rapp Farm, 2) initiating a Community Safety Forum, open to residents, providing the opportunity to hear from County Police Leaders, + to have residents share their experiences/priorities related to safety + privacy w/ City and NOHOA leadership, 3) advocating for careful oversight of community tax dollars, 4) securing an alternative road plan associated w/ new development, one more acceptable to existing neighbors, 5) obtaining commitment that development associated w/ Red Forest Way would be accessed during building via existing farm roads off Centerville, rather than causing wear + tear on existing roads.
As Police Liaison, my focus is on preserving low rates of crime against property + persons w/in our boundaries. If allowed to serve again, I will finish what I started, installing traffic calming measures to reduce speeding. 2nd focus is taking steps with local stakeholders to restore Pleasant Lake, making it a recreational resource we can admire, use more often, and with confidence. 3rd, I would continue collaboration w/ NOHOA on development, privacy, + security matters we prioritize together.
I'll continue what I've done as Police Liaison. I championed a Rapp Farm speed limit decrease, secured portable radar signs for residents who requested them, and am working w/ NOHOA + City Engineers to implement seasonal, temporary traffic calming measures in areas w/ historic speeding and potential pedestrian/vehicle interaction. I've shared information w/ the community on how to combat increasingly sophisticated fraud efforts, and encouraged neighbor help sharing when "something isn't right".

I'm passionate about service to others. I spent 14yrs proudly serving as a Special Agent with the United States Secret Service. As a member of the Community, and as a father and husband raising a family in North Oaks, I feel it's important to once again serve others. I believe a strong commitment to service and a fresh perspective on the challenges and issues North Oaks may face going forward make me a solid candidate for the City Council. I believe in collaboration, diversity of thought, and taking action in a transparent way to ensure community understanding and support. I will bring an energy to the City Council and a commitment to ensuring North Oaks remains a safe and wonderful place to live and raise a family.
1. Safety and Security - I believe it's important to keep our community safe from crime as well as natural disasters. 2. Safeguarding our natural resources - I believe the health of our lakes, trails, and forest areas is critical to the long-term well-being of our community. 3. Ensuring North Oaks remains a welcoming community - working together to ensure North Oaks continues to be a family-friendly, welcoming community that future residents are excited to become a part of.
It starts by listening to what the community has to say - what are their concerns - then taking that information and collaborating with other civic leaders and subject matter experts like the Ramsey County Sheriff's Department and safety and security technology companies. Develop a strategy - ensure the community has the opportunity to review and ask questions - then move forward with implementation in a transparent manner to ensure community supports the initiative.
