Because I feel that a mayor should have a very strong relationship with every employee of our city, and be someone who cares about every person in our community, I’m very budget minded, as the money spent is every person in our communities money, therefore spend wisely, not necessarily raising tax, but cut spending. I believe that I can assist to our city council in making better decisions than previous mayors, and the current one as well. Having been a businessman in Lakefield for many years, it has taught me that the people are the ones that make small town thrive, I want to give back to a town that has been so great to me for so many years. Thank you for this opportunity, and as always, I will do my best for the people of our community.
Saving money by keeping spending to the possible minimum is very high on my agenda, due to the loss of our farmers elevator we have lost a lot of tax revenue, and affordable housing for seniors is very important to our community, as hopefully we can gain young families, to purchase their previous homes, to keep the community growth going in the right direction, last but not least, child care is extremely important as that’s what young families are, and in these times all parents need to work.
Communicating with the public is very important in keep everyone safe, I believe that Lakefield has great law enforcement, and as the mayor I will support our local law enforcement officers, and provide them with anything they need. Citizen concerns should, have, and always should be addressed in a timely manner.
I am best qualified because of experience. I have many years with in public service. Included are 16 years on Lake field Ambulance Service as EMT. I also was Director for 8 years . I have served 34 years with the Lakefield Fire department. 14 12 as Training Officer and 14 years as Fire Chief. During the times in emergency service I learned what it take s to serve the public and how to work with city council and leaders to get things done. During my time as Fire chief my team of officers and myself worked with the mayor and city council to get a new fire station constructed. As Mayor I have participated in meetings coordinating in many infrastructure and street projects. I have participated in the hiring new employees.
A priority is always emergency services. Police, Fire and EMS. Also getting more streets up to standards by arranging for repairs. Getting sub standard properties cleaned up. Improving buildings for safer work environment. City hall ADA Compliant.
I will follow then lead of our Police Chief on any recommendations. Have a priority of improving the outdoor sirens for reliability.
Thanks to my upbringing, career path, and educational background, I have the leadership skills and ability to make educated common sense decisions needed as mayor of Lakefield.
As an educator for 34 years, I know how to be the one in charge. As a Driver Ed instructor for 18 years, I know how to handle difficult situations.
I have served on our Utility Board for over 12 years and on the Rec Board for about 10 years. I have always tried to make common sense decisions based on the known information and on how it would benefit Lakefield.
Additionally, I personally know every current council member and also the candidates running for the open seats. I know I will be able to work with them for the betterment of Lakefield.
Lakefield has a need for more independent living and assisted living for the elderly. By filling this need homes would be available for new or existing residents to buy.
Secondly, we have a lack of day care providers to care for the children of the workforce.
Thirdly, currently our town is without a car wash and laundromat. These services are assets to a town.
I would also add a fourth: the THC product dispensing. It will be important to work with the schools and police for a viable plan
Lakefield is a relatively safe community but we still have to be prepared.
I will work with our police to verify they have the resources needed to ensure public safety. I will also make sure our ambulance and fire department have what they need as well.
As a retired driver ed instructor, I will strive to have our curbs painted in no parking zones at our intersections. That allows drivers to see pedestrians or vehicles easier.
I will promote community pride, creating a safer environment.
