I am independent and a political outsider. Not funded by any special interests! I will do what’s right for Lakeville, and not what special interests might pull strings on. I am non-partisan and non-polarizing. With my military experience (retired U.S. Navy Captain), technical background (licensed civil engineer); and small business owner experience; I offer unique skills to help make Lakeville a better city. I have lived the military leader’s code of “Authority, Responsibility, Accountability.” My engineering background will be helpful in smartly managing Lakeville’s growth while maintaining our “small town” flavor. Having raised 5 children in Lakeville, I understand the challenges families face. VoteRichardHenderson.com.

As a City Council member, I have truly leaned into efforts that build upon three important Lakeville Community Values: Creating a sense of community and belonging; Building and designing a connected community; Facilitating safety and well-being throughout the community. I have a proven record of thoughtful and strategic decisions. Current and former colleagues agree that my strengths lie in listening deeply to the varied needs and differing perspectives of the community and developing solutions through collaboration and partnership. As a proven and dedicate public servant, I have the experience and unmatched community support to serve the growing and diverse needs of the City of Lakeville.
Safety & Wellbeing - Supporting personnel, policies and initiatives that promote healthy environments to live, work and play. Sustainable Growth - Supporting a vision for the future that anticipates the financial changes of a fully built-out community and ensures a balanced tax based that continues to thrive when the city transitions from new-builds to re-development. Sense of Community - Supporting personnel, infrastructure, policies and initiatives that foster a strong sense of belonging.
As a former CSO and Police Reserve, public safety is a passion area for me. I have the privilege to sit on the Public Safety Committee, Fire Relief Board and Personnel Committee; each prioritizing different, but important, aspects of public safety. Our public safety will continue to require support to maintain staffing as our population grows. Investment in public safety personnel, leave policies, mental health support and training facilities that improve staff morale and community safety.

As a small business operator, I understand how rules and regulations impact our local businesses, and as a Councilwoman and former School Board Director, I have experience approving policies, developing beneficial partnerships, managing resources with limited funds and bringing together valuable input from constituents. My philosophy of public service, first and foremost, means serving the public, not myself. I will ask the hard questions and listen to both sides of an issue. I won’t be a “rubber stamp” council member. Residents care deeply for our city’s well-being, and I will work hard so that their voices are heard on community matters.
Preserving our high-rated public safety services as we grow by supporting our First Responders with the resources necessary to effectively perform their role of keeping us safe. Enhancing additional parks with inclusive playground equipment, like our newest “We-Go-Round” for children in wheelchairs. Continuing to find opportunities to partner with organizations and other government entities that will benefit our community.
According to the most recent city survey of residents, a safe city is the most important aspect of quality of life in our community, and they highly rated their satisfaction with the performance of our public safety employees. Both our Police and Fire Departments make concerted efforts to engage with our public regularly through in-person events, such as coffee chats and safety demonstrations, and online with videos and social media. I am very proud of our emergency response personnel.
