Excelsior City Mayor

The role of city mayor can vary from city to city. However, the mayor is usually the head of the city and may represent the city in front of other government bodies. A mayor also usually has a role in proposing a city budget that is approved by the city council. The budget influences the services the city provides to its residents. Mayors sometimes are voting members of city council, and in some cities the mayor is in charge of city council meetings.

I am running for Excelsior Mayor because the policy and ideas I represent from many residents is a better match toward heading into the future. There will be a cultural shift in creating conservation, moderation and a respectful stewardship. When embarking on such a shift, tension from certain camps is a natural part of the challenge. Some people won’t get their way. The policy making is about the greater good of Excelsior. My work as a Marriage & Family Therapist has generated a skill set toward bridging differences. Whether the issue is about fiscal management, the environment or community, the process will involve decision making that is best for most. The journey takes courage to sail in a headwind. We will succeed.
Reduce our spending. The cost of the Pavilion was approximately $1.5 million. The current cost of the new Concession Stand is estimated at $3.4 million. Large major projects in the Commons are supplemented by a .05% sales tax. Still, residents are paying for the expenses. Renovation is far less expensive. Tighten up our communication between council, commissions and community. Streamline our city website. Initiate an affordable living equation in our city ordinances for future residents.
Include in the budget lifeguards at our Commons beach. Closely monitor pathogen trends to respond in a timely basis. There is strength and safety through numbers. Work with the SLMPD staff and with each other to return to an informal yet effective manner of walking or biking in our neighborhoods. Connection, Community and the Courage to communicate is a bedrock for securing a safe neighborhood. Exposure establishes familiarity. Familiarity builds trust. And trust connects all of us.
