I have the experience needed to be effective on the City Council. I serve on the Planning Commission and the Charter Commission. I was chair of the Environmental Quality Committee. This service taught me the importance of listening to multiple points of view and building consensus. I have increased my understanding and perspective of our community, and the issues that are shaping Plymouth by taking part in programs like the Plymouth Public Safety Citizens Academy, the Hennepin County Academy, Leadership Twin Cities and others. I know how our government works and the critical issues facing our community. I will always keep the long-term common good of Plymouth in mind, be thoughtful in decision-making and act with integrity.
I'm running for city council to bring more transparency and inclusion to our government. My top priorities would be: 1. Approach redevelopment and public safety to ensure a welcoming community for residents and businesses. This has been my focus on the Planning Commission. 2. Maintain our fiscal responsibility and long-term outlook to keep our infrastructure strong. 3. Making Plymouth a known leader on environmental stewardship. There are more priorities and details listed on my website.
Promoting public safety starts with relationships. Strengthening relationships between our police and the diverse communities and neighborhoods that make up Plymouth, and strengthening relationships between neighbors. I would seek to build community through more neighborhood events–like Night to Unite–that bring people together and create a common bond and build shared experiences together, as well as encouraging greater participation in programs like Neighborhood Watch.
I immigrated with my family to the U.S. at age 7 after traversing the world and from a young age, I learned to relate well with people. I am a businesswoman who runs her own consulting practice in strategy, operations, & finance and proudly call Plymouth home. Four of the seven current council members reside in Ward 2. As a Ward 1 resident, I will bring a more geographic balance and new perspective where all will be heard. I believe “serving all people” is how a community thrives and remains united. We all want a safe neighborhood, the snow plowed, potholes fixed, and parks kept up to date. My experiences, principles and ethics have made me a successful businesswoman and effective community leader; it would now be an honor to serve YOU.
1. Keep YOU safe via public safety at the individual, neighborhood, and city level. I will advocate for crime prevention measures and develop safety solutions for us 2. Use YOUR tax dollars wisely. I will apply common sense when evaluating city projects and minimize taxes on citizens and business owners, making sure you get the best bang for your buck! 3. Protect OUR recreational areas in balance with city planning and growth. I will listen to YOUR voice to help drive what is best for Plymouth.
I would start by acknowledging we have an incredible and strong public safety foundation. I would collaborate with our Director of Public Safety to ensure we continue to do what we are doing well and in parallel, determine how we can be even better in ensuring all of Plymouth’s residents feel safe. I would also personally commit to riding along with police and fire to each part of Plymouth to gain first-hand experience of public safety in action.
