Pelican Rapids City Mayor

The role of city mayor can vary from city to city. However, the mayor is usually the head of the city and may represent the city in front of other government bodies. A mayor also usually has a role in proposing a city budget that is approved by the city council. The budget influences the services the city provides to its residents. Mayors sometimes are voting members of city council, and in some cities the mayor is in charge of city council meetings.

I am a life long resident of the community and City of Pelican Rapids. As a former long time employee for the City of Pelican Rapids, I am very familiar with the current and future needs of the city. This includes the city planning, all city departments, city infrastructure and city utility services. Before retirement, I held licenses in; water, wastewater and biosolids. I have been a member of the Pelican Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce, Pelican Rapids Economic Development Committee, Pelican Rapids Comprehensive Planning Steering Committee and as a River Restoration Advisory Board member for the projects of; Pelican Lake, Prairie Lake and Lake Lizzie. I currently serve on the Otter Tail County Planning Commission.
Top priorities are housing needs, River Restoration Project and the 2024 Pelican Rapids Complete Streets Project. Single family housing is needed for; workers, future residents and retirees. The River Restoration Project and Complete Streets Project have been the labors of many meetings and planning for several years and thus need to be completed on schedule. The River Restoration Project will bring more water recreational activities as the Street Project will bring a new look to our city.
Public safety should be front and foremost for any city government. The funding for the Police Department, Fire Department and Ambulance Services should be accomplished to ensure the public that there are enough employees and equipment to guard their safety. I will continue to conduct “Conversations with the Mayor” whereas residents can inform me of concerns in the city which may relate to public safety. I will continue to be visible and available to the residents within our city.
