What qualifications do you bring to the office?
What is a major challenge facing your constituents and how will you address it?
What are the major goals you hope to achieve should you be elected to office?
I have had three separate and distinct careers. I was a Secret Service agent and served during the George W. Bush Administration. I left my career in the Secret Service to be a stay-at-home mom to my three children for ten years. When my marriage ended, I returned to the workforce as a civil engineer (my original career before the Secret Service) and worked for DuPage County as a stormwater engineer for over five years. With my depth of knowledge about crime, stormwater management, and infrastructure, I am uniquely qualified to speak on all of these topics. As part of my commitment to lifelong learning, I am also an MBA candidate at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and will graduate from the program this December. I view issues from a business perspective, engineering perspective, public service perspective, and family perspective.
One major challenge faced by my constituents is flooding. Many areas of DuPage County are prone to flooding and impaired drainage. As a stormwater engineer at DuPage County, I assessed flood damage and processed stormwater permit applications. One way to address flooding in DuPage County is to upgrade our stormwater requirements for land development. New developments should include more stormwater mitigation measures to capture the runoff created by the new hard surfaces. I am pro-development, however, because our local flooding continues to get worse, it is important that new developments build stormwater mitigation measures into their plans. We can avoid flooding the surrounding properties when new developments build stormwater management into their plans.
My major goals are to keep DuPage County in good working order and maintain a balanced budget. I will accomplish this by voting yes on budget items that maintain our infrastructure, support our public safety programs, and upgrade our technology. I want to continually find ways to save taxpayer money. When we leverage technology countywide to increase efficiencies across all departments, we save time and money. DuPage County is a great place to live, work, and play. I aim to keep it that way.
