Safety. My neighbors have concerns about traffic violence, sanitation, & crime. I will work with District agencies to overcome their shortcomings on these issues.

I will support the redesign of streets and intersections in ANC1B. Every time there is a crash, the ANC must ask DDOT what design changes can be implemented to prevent another.

I will support improving street sanitation. I was disappointed to learn that DCDPW has removed street trash cans across the city, including in SMD1B09, with no warning or process. I will hold DCDPW accountable for its sanitation mandate.

I will also support police & non-police efforts to reduce crime. I believe police have a role in crime reduction in ANC1B. That's why I’m disappointed to see MPD officers idling their cars in traffic lanes and checking their phones. I am sure our MPD officers can better use current resources. In the meantime, I will study results from non-police crime reduction efforts, and support any that show promise.
Effective Commissioners balance constituent responsiveness, long-term vision and communication. My answer to the question above outlines some of my priorities for responsiveness, while my answer to the question below outlines some of my longer-term vision for our neighborhood. Communication is essential, and I have found that effective Commissioners communicate in a variety of ways. I have already knocked doors in most of our district to reach out to residents (and will continue to do so), but some residents do not like to be contacted that way. I will also maintain a listserv with emails every other month outlining major questions that the ANC is dealing with, outlining my thinking on those questions, and inviting residents’ input on those topics. I will also advocate for hybrid online/in-person ANC meetings, to help all residents access these public meetings.
How can an ANC contribute to a more liveable neighborhood?

I’ve lived in SMD 1B09 for five years, and Washington for six years. I am honored that Columbia Heights, our historic, diverse, and friendly neighborhood, has welcomed me through all of that time. I am running for ANC to prioritize our neighborhood’s liveability, focusing on: *Creating and protecting safe streets for all users *Building more affordable housing to counter rising rent *Improving responsiveness from DC government agencies.

A liveable neighborhood is one where people can live their lives the way they choose. That means it must be safe and efficient for walking, biking, using mobility devices & strollers, using public transportation, and driving. That means it must have a multitude of housing options, affordable for families at varying income levels. And that means that DC government agencies hold up their end of the bargain. If elected I will work with fellow Commissioners to advance livability in ANC1B.
