Información Biográfica

What is the most important issue facing your Single Member District and how do you intend to address it?

How will you engage with residents to be an effective Commissioner, especially reaching those who are unfamiliar with the role and value of ANCs?

Is there a question you wish we had asked? If so, what is the question and how would you answer it?

Qualifications I have dedicated my career to ensuring all students have access to a high-quality education that will prepare them to lead a fulfilling life. I bring that same passion to supporting my community and building a neighborhood that is safe and inclusive.

The Union Market/Gallaudet neighborhood has grown substantially in the past few years. With at least four new apartment buildings under construction, the area will continue to grow. It is essential that the neighborhood has access to city services, green spaces, safe streets and affordable housing to match the increased density. My goal as a Commissioner will be to represent the voice of the residents, so their neighborhood includes the services and spaces most needed. As a part of this, I plan to gather and listen to my neighbors to ensure I am advocating for what they see as the most significant needs. From this, I will work with the DOT, local orgs/leaders and transportation experts to re-imagine the streets in our area. I will also work with the Office of Planning and the Dept. of Parks and Recreation to bring in more green spaces. Finally, I will protect and advocate for more rent control protection and support development plans that increase affordable housing options.
Foundational to the role of ANCs is to ensure District government decisions are informed and responsive to the community's voice and that residents are aware of the services and resources available to them. As a Commissioner, engaging and reaching residents in my SMD will be fundamental to my work. To do so, I will work through existing channels that reach my neighbors (e.g., community boards, building list-serves, institutions, businesses and organizations) to create an open, two-way line of communication. I will also hold regular in-person opportunities to meet and learn from my neighbors about specific topics (e.g., community inclusivity, safe streets) and hear general concerns by setting up coffee chats and neighborhood cleanups. Additionally, I will use my Twitter/website to provide information and elevate these opportunities. Through these engagements, I will work to ensure I am representing the neighborhood's needs and connecting residents with additional resources and services.
What do you love about your neighborhood?

5D01 is in NoMA and home to the University of Gallaudet, Union Market and KIPP DC College Prep. It is bordered by the Metro Branch Trail and neighbors Eckington and Ivy City. In addition to the residential apartment buildings and educational institutions, the neighborhood includes a wide range of businesses like Politics and Pros and restaurants like A. Litteri. I love that this is a neighborhood that a diverse group of individuals wants to call home and a place visitors and those living in the District want to visit. I believe we can continue to make 5D01 an inclusive, safe and supportive community and one of the District's most vibrant destinations.
