I originally moved to Washington, DC in 1999 from Columbia, SC to attend Howard University. I’ve lived in New York, Maryland, and Northern Virginia before I became a DC resident in 2006. I am a wife and a mother of three daughters. Although I have held several positions in the private sector, I believe that the one thing that qualifies me to represent the people of 2G05 is that I know and appreciate the history of this neighborhood; I know the people who make this neighborhood great (natives and transplants); and I am interested in showing the people who make this neighborhood great that I value them by listening to and advocating for their best interests over the interests of any developer or person with an opposing view. I have watched this neighborhood change since I was a student at Howard University, taking the 70 bus down to Giant Food to stock my dorm refrigerator, and now, as a resident for 16 years, I feel I can make a difference in the place that I call home.
Although violence is a huge issue within DC, I believe the lack of affordable housing is the most important issue facing 2G05. I plan to speak with and listen to the concerns of the residents of 2G05 when developers and special interest groups approach the ANC for exceptions to DC’s inclusionary zoning laws and to increase density in areas specifically designed to be residential. I believe the goal of the ANC is to improve the lives of the residents that live in the single district instead of creating additional obstacles that make living in DC harder.
I would start by sending a bi-monthly newsletter to all residents containing important upcoming events, votes, and policy changes in our district. The newsletter would also have my contact information, key community resources, and highlights from monthly ANC meetings
I wish you had asked me about on-street parking and predatory ticketing. Drivers are constantly inconvenienced by a lack of parking and predatory ticketing. There is an increase in bike shares, bike lanes, e-scooters, and parking for those devices, all while driving lanes are minimized and parking is taken up to provide space for bike shares and bike parking, but very little is done for people who drive in the city. More of a balance needs to be created for those who choose/need to drive a vehicle. Parking meter attendants ticket residents at odd times in the early morning hours on a regular basis, creating additional financial burdens on people who need/choose to drive their vehicles. I would propose that residents form a coalition with residents from other wards to collectively address the responsible agencies to lower the absurd number of parking tickets and to create an environment in which drivers and those who prefer to use alternative modes of transportation can coexist.
I am a Washingtonian for I was born and raised in this great city. I have served as an volunteer for over 30 years with various community, nonprofit and governmental organizations.
Crime is a very important issue currently in my Single Member District and I attend to meet with the Community leaders of the Apartments, church leaders, business owners, MPD and most importantly, the citizens of the district that we may come together to bring about a change, solutions for a better safe and vibrant community. No one person or group can do it by themselves, it will take the community as a whole to address all issues of concerns.
I will keep an open line 24/7 for the residents and other stakeholders in my Single Member District for any and all assistance as needed to address their concerns. I will hold monthly or bi-monthly meetings for residents to come in person and hear their concerns and work on getting their concerns addressed in a timely fashion.
No hay repuesta.
