I've been in education for over a decade and the past two pandemic years have uncovered a lot of inequities in our education system. Teachers have become the most disregarded professional with one of the highest levels of responsibilities. Currently, teachers are leaving the profession at an alarming rate and it has long lasting effects on the school community. I want to ensure our educators are staying in the profession to ensures student have quality continuity in their education experience. A major in piece in students having a quality education experience is ensure that students have access to these opportunities right in their neighborhood.
As a third generation educator, I have been in the education space since I was a young child. I have a multitude of teaching experiences in both public and charter schools. Currently, I am a school leader in DC Pubic Schools where I work collaboratively with students, teachers, and parents everyday. I know first hand of the issues that effect our education system and will continue to work with stakeholders to find solutions that have the best long lasting results.
Everyday as a school leader, I have to balance the needs of students, parents, and teachers. When responding to these needs, I always lead with the knowing the students deserve the best possible education experience possible. I know that I will always view solutions through an equity lens.
