Ramsey County Commissioner District 3

County commissioners are the county s key policymakers. They oversee the administration of the county, set county budget, and participate in county long-range planning. County services that they oversee include a wide variety of social service and welfare programs, as well as certain public health programs. I know that marginalized communities especially lack affordable housing and they also lack leaders that have the political will to do something about it. Affordable housing has always been an issue in Ramsey County, and Covid-19 put an even bigger spotlight on this issue. If you elect me as your Commissioner, I will increase the investment in affordable and social housing. I will improve the targeting for public support and make the private rental market more affordable.
Elections and voting is not under the purview of the Commissioner, however I think that safe and fair elections is the foundation of our democracy. I would use my position to to use every communication method I have to educate citizens in my district. I would also rehabilitate what community engagement should be with the foundation being community trust which will encourage citizens to vote. Work with the Secretary of State to review legislation that may identify voter suppression.
Lack of adequate insurance coverage. Stigmas. Mental health workforce shortage. Language barriers. I would establish a Mental Health Advisory Council for my district that would have mental health professionals, people that are and may need services, legislative representation, criminal justice, law enforcement and persons from NGO’s.
The most essential services that must be preserved is public safety, public works, citizens welfare support, courts/jails, schools.
