Keeping property taxes in check without sacrificing services. Request accountability from departments to decrease spending yet provide necessary services. Review data to prove a need in expenditure, reorganize services to lower costs and look at position replacements using the most up-to-date technology.

Implement systematic changes and interventions to improve prevention & treatment within the law enforcement program to reduce recidivism. Cultivate programs for justice involved opioid users and look at an after jail time treatment-based system.

Increase communication to a level of an authentic, transparent approach so community members feel respected, informed, heard, and involved in decisions working towards an inclusive community.
The local housing authority and community action council work to develop affordable housing in our county and the county supports their endeavors. It is my goal to increase this collaboration to provide an investment and create more workforce housing within the county. Affordable housing improves our work force, school districts, creates an increase in business opportunities and a decrease in taxes.
The County will work with the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State to ensure that every vote is properly cast, counted, and reported. We will support the training and integrity established by the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State and provide up to date election practices.
The biggest challenges are the availability of local resources, especially for children. Programs and resources are closing yet there is greater need for treatment options. For the justice involved adults, options include a family friendly jail initiative, community-based social worker, and restorative practices. My goal is to implement trainings for trauma informed care & resiliency, develop local day treatment programs, opportunities for school therapy services, and school resource officers.
As the County Board, our task is to be fiscally responsible at all times and to avoid a budgetary crisis. It is critical to work together to decrease spending and to provide the services expected for the constituents of Carlton County. I will ask for data to prove a need in expenditure and will encourage the board to continue to evaluate positions, using the most up-to-date technology, and reorganizing service wherever possible to lower costs.
