Houston County Commissioner District 4

County commissioners are the county s key policymakers. They oversee the administration of the county, set county budget, and participate in county long-range planning. County services that they oversee include a wide variety of social service and welfare programs, as well as certain public health programs. Learn more about the day in the life of a county commissioner in this video from the Association of Minnesota Counties. If Elected My Top 3 Priority’s will be #1. I will establish and maintain trust and open relations with the Public and also the County Departments. #2. Provide financial responsibility and work to stay in budgets yet provide quality services from our county departments for our hardworking Taxpayers. #3. Work to provide solid county wide relationships that work together with all the local City and Township communities. “Together we can do this!”
Houston County is fortunate to have the amount of small and mid-size community’s we have. Working to keep property taxes in line so the housing is affordable is a major concern of the tax payers. Keeping our workers up to date and in line with proper tools and training to make correct assessments of property values will help keep out housing affordable in Houston County.
Elections Laws are a topic of concern to many. I have knowledge of the elections process in working with the township and city clerks on this process. As Town Board Chairman and Board Member I have seen firsthand how the election judges work and training is crucial. They do a very good job and I will work to provide them access to attend training and work with our state representatives to see that the high standard of quality continues.
Mental Health and Human Services is a huge part of everyday life that sometimes goes unnoticed to many. In working in Law Enforcement the last 33 years in the areas of both County and Local departments I have seen the struggles that the workers have. I will make sure that the legislatures are aware of the issues that we face on a daily occurrences and I will see that funding and proper trainings are secured for the health workers to do their job the best for our community’s.
I will ensure the Public is Safe, the Roads are safe and that the People are cared for. Just about every department in Houston County fits the statutory definition of “Essential Service.” I will research what areas can be combined and how cost sharing can help save budgets. Working with each department on needs and wants and knowing that there is a difference between them. Working together and listening to both the tax payers and the department heads is crucial to budget cuts if necessary.
