My experience as Asst County Assessor and Chief Deputy Auditor/Treasurer best qualifies me because I understand all functions of both the Assessor’s office & Auditor/Treasurers Office. As the Chief Deputy Auditor/Treasurer, I am responsible for supervising 11 staff, calculating property taxes per MN Statutes, knowledge of MN property tax laws & statutes & legal description interpretation. Responsible for maintaining tax increment financing, fiscal disparity and special assessments programs. Involvement in budget, levy & apportionment processes, tax & land value & classification, tax collection, tax delinquency & forfeiture process, & processing all licenses to include alcohol, tobacco, gambling, fireworks, precious metals & Auctioneer.
Ensure all proper procedures & State statutes are followed in the administration of all aspects of the office to result in the utmost in transparency. Continued dedication & duty bound to service, continuing to provide the best front line staff & being continuously available & accessible to manage & troubleshoot. Educating property owners on the impact of increasing property values vs property tax increases. Understanding taxes will not necessarily increase because property values increase.
Maintain the Auditor/Treasurers office to provide the best assistance to the taxpayers. To include further educating, not only the employees, but also the taxpayers to provide the most information, resulting in the highest level of professionalism possible regarding information being provided. Directing citizens to other Departments or resources to answer any questions, concerns, or additional information that is beyond the scope of Auditor/Treasurers Dept.
Continue to be committed to protecting & strengthening the security & fairness of the election process in Itasca County. Continue to follow State Statutes & MN Secretary of State policies & procedures to achieve & maintain total transparency in the election process. Utilize the County Attorney's office for assistance in investigating election misconduct, discrimination, voter intimidation, or other acts of non-compliance that may have occurred.
Remain extremely customer focused & provide the utmost in outstanding customer service. Maintain trained staff & offer continuous training to provide staff the ability to answer any & all questions regarding tax collection, tax calculation, tax delinquency & resources available to assist the customer. This to include the proper application process of the MN Property Tax Refund program (M1PR) that allows for a property tax refunds by the State of MN dependent on income & property tax increases.
