I have over 20 years experience as a licensed peace officer in MN. I have 15 years experience in leadership as a law enforcement supervisor in departments of more than 20 officers.

I have leadership certifications from the MN Chiefs of Police, MN BCA, and the FBI Leadership Program. I have six years of post secondary education including an AAS in Law Enforcement and a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice. I have proven experience in leadership with successful outcomes in mentoring and leading officers.

I have numerous certifications as an instructor including; firearms, taser, domestic violence/sexual assault investigations, mental health crisis intervention, complaint investigations, and as a field training officer to name a few.
Community Collaboration - I will create a program which provides transparency, availability and responsiveness to the public. This program will provide the public a voice in the sheriffs office.

Fiscal Responsibility - I will keep a balanced budget which identifies needs vs. wants without decrease public safety.

Public Safety - I will mentor and coach employees to develop new leaders within the agency. This will give employees the ability to provide a better service to the community.
Poor morale - Leadership involves gaining trust of those who work for you. Employees need to know they have a stake in the community and their duties are necessary. Positive feedback for good work is necessary.

Lack of proactive productivity - Structure needs to be added to the department so employees know the ground rules and what is expected. In order to increase public safety, officers will be expected to proactively patrol all areas of the county routinely. This is a priority of mine.
Open collaborative relations with the media. Currently, this is poor at best. Provide information to the public as it becomes available. Foster new relationships with community members to build trust and working relationships. This in turn will enhance public safety from information sharing. I will start coffee with a cop which will encompass meetings on a quarterly basis in every township to give the public a voice in the sheriff's office and its performance in their local jurisdiction.
My leadership style is based off the coach style. Mentoring and training staff to improve their abilities is necessary which will increase their performance and professionalism. Not every employee has the same interests. Leaders need to be able to effective identify employee strengths and help them succeed in those areas. Some may be future leaders while some may be focused on being the best they can be in certain areas of law enforcement. Training, and mentoring increase public safety.
