The role of the Sheriff requires business, administrative, management, personnel, community service/interaction and law enforcement experience. I have years of experience/success in each of those areas. The Sheriff needs to see through multiple lenses, outside of just law enforcement, and see things from different perspectives and think outside the box. I have a broad and diverse background and life experiences which I believe will be the best benefit to our County. I have completed extensive leadership training courses and curriculum, but more importantly, have successfully applied those principles and techniques across multiple careers for years. I have personal, business and law enforcement networks that will benefit the County.
Drugs, officer retention/recruitment and how we use tax payer dollars. Drugs destroy the lives of those involved, everyone else around them and the community. A large number of crimes are directly/indirectly related to drugs/alcohol. In the next year we are going to need to replace multiple positions. We need to make our Agency a place people want to make careers. Our County needs to change their spending habits and allocations. I have the business mind and experience to do it.
Staffing for the Sheriff's Office/Jail. Our wages and medical insurance are well behind comparable agencies. Offices are short staffed. Burnout is a concern. Due to various types of retirements, officers leaving LE careers and officers taking jobs with other agencies we will need to replace a number of positions within the next year. We need to first work with the County Board to get wages and medical coverage competitive. Once accomplished we need to get creative in our recruitment efforts.
Interact on social media platforms, increased press releases, face to face interactions. Social media is a great tool to interact, inform and ask the public for help. It's an effective way to spread information and interact with the community quickly and in great numbers. We need to be in constant communication with the press. If elected, I plan on being outside the office and personally interacting with the public as much as possible. I would encourage others in the Office to do the same.
I am not a micro manager. I know and understand my strengths and weaknesses and believe in surrounding myself with people with strengths in areas I do not have. As a former professional athlete, I take a team approach and know different people fulfill different roles, all with the same goal in mind. I expect people to be accountable in their areas of expertise and to do their job and do it well.
