Columbia Heights City Mayor

The role of city mayor can vary from city to city. However, the mayor is usually the head of the city and may represent the city in front of other government bodies. A mayor also usually has a role in proposing a city budget that is approved by the city council. The budget influences the services the city provides to its residents. Mayors sometimes are voting members of city council, and in some cities the mayor is in charge of city council meetings.

I am the only candidate that strives for equality, fights nepotism, and is committed to representing EVERYONE. We are one of the most diverse cities in Minnesota and representation matters. I do not wait for concerns to come to me. Instead, I hold regular meetings with organizers, faith leaders, and business owners across many cultures.

I have insights and leadership experience that makes me uniquely positioned to continue serving as your Mayor. I am the only candidate who knows how to get things done by leveraging the talents of our city staff, organizations, and community volunteers. Before I was elected, I was our school’s community education program manager, a Public Works employee, and a board member of several non-profit organization
Public safety - This includes strong support for our new community social workers, as well as safety improvements to our high-traffic streets like Central Avenue. Supporting local business - It is harder than ever to run a business in today’s economy. I will continue to promote our businesses with connections and opportunities to help them thrive. Addressing residential concerns - This includes housing and support for renters, as well as updating our parks to reflect the needs of our community.
Community safety stems from community involvement. Our Council, commissions, boards, and public safety departments need to have the equity and diversity of our own neighborhoods. I support our police with the addition of social workers, officers from our own community, our neighborhood watch volunteers, and our Multicultural Advisory Committee. I have also created a rapid response team of community leaders to ensure that citizens will always have a way to safely assemble and protest if needed.
