Dayton City Mayor

The role of city mayor can vary from city to city. However, the mayor is usually the head of the city and may represent the city in front of other government bodies. A mayor also usually has a role in proposing a city budget that is approved by the city council. The budget influences the services the city provides to its residents. Mayors sometimes are voting members of city council, and in some cities the mayor is in charge of city council meetings.

I believe I am the best candidate because for decades I’ve watched this city’s interactions with its residents and seen how apathy, reckless spending, and power can easily corrupt that relationship. I’ve seen how resident’s views are quickly tossed aside when they get in the way of something that was already decided in a back room. When I originally ran for council, I wanted to help shift the council to one that listened more to the residents instead of playing some form of a Sim City game. I also felt that our city’s ridiculously high tax notoriety needed to be dealt with. In 2020 I was elected mayor and with other new members we knocked our rate from 54% to 38%.
Continue to keep taxes down to sane levels. Find ways to control our residential development at safe levels. Our residential development rate has been dangerously high. I believe our residents are seeing that. That doesn’t mean we need to stop development, but it does mean we need to be smarter about HOW we do developments. I believe this city needs to make smarter choices ANY time it throws money around. This city has made critical mistakes in recent years that ended up costing us dearly.
Dayton is one of the safest cities in the metro area. Even with all of the new housing, our crime rate has stayed low and flat. We recently added a fire engine, upgraded our fire stations, and our staff found a way to fund police cars at a significantly lower rate. In 5-6 years when our commercial development starts to build revenue, we’ll need a new south west fire station. If we did it today it would cost a median house $650 a year. A medical response capability is a good short term answer.
