Hibbing City Mayor

The role of city mayor can vary from city to city. However, the mayor is usually the head of the city and may represent the city in front of other government bodies. A mayor also usually has a role in proposing a city budget that is approved by the city council. The budget influences the services the city provides to its residents. Mayors sometimes are voting members of city council, and in some cities the mayor is in charge of city council meetings.

I have worked for the City of Hibbing for just short of 36 years and I have a good understanding of my community. During my career with the city I held four positions- Golf/Parks Maintenance Supervisor, Supt. of Public Works, Director of City Services and Interim City Administrator. I'm running for mayor because I want the opportunity to use my experience in managerial, operational, budgeting and grant writing to help move Hibbing forward. During my career I was responsible for listening to the residents and user groups and identifying the wants, needs and lack of opportunities and facilities within our city. By creating community partnerships and by working together we accomplished many positive improvements in the city of Hibbing.
There are many issues in a city big and small that are all important and are always intertwined. I feel three important issues that affect all residents in different ways include- Public Safety which includes Police and Fire; City Infrastructure like roads, alleys, sidewalks, storm and sanitary sewer lines and water and power services; Quality of Life which includes recreation, health and wellness that support both the mental and the physical well being of the residents of our communities.
I feel there are many aspects of what contributes to public safety. Police and Fire are the physical presence that the public sees and expects but, I feel public safety really starts in the homes with positive supportive parenting and by what is taught in the schools. From a city point of view, I would continue and expand the outreach community programs all ready in place. Early interaction with the development of our youth through community partnerships creates a safer community.
