As an educator for 36 years & Board member for 12, I bring a wealth of experience, knowledge,& understanding to inform my decision making. An independent thinker, I rely on facts, research, best practices, & insights from my Board colleagues, educators, & others. Academics are the center of the Strategic Plan but unlike my challenger, I know that fostering purpose & belonging is key to learning & growth; teacher & student engagement create a positive learning environment. When students are accepted for who they are & have the supports necessary for success, they can thrive academically & become their best selves. Students are not "inmates running the asylum;" education is not a zero sum game. We do better when we work together!
1.Implement the Strategic Plan with academics, safety & belonging as core elements essential for deeper learning & academic success; monitoring individual site improvement plans aligned with the Strategic Plan & the unique needs of their learners; expanding supports for mental health/wellness of students & staff. 2.Expand opportunities for staff, parent, student & community engagement, building on existing structures & creating new opportunities. 3. Consider budget cuts &/or a voter referendum.
Listening to students & staff is essential for a safe learning environment.Educators & staff collaborate, develop & evaluate strategies for safety & well-being, student growth & academic success. Policies direct & support this work & are regularly reviewed to ensure compliance with state & federal law, & District goals. The superintendent implements them & engages in Board review to ensure they are aligned with best practice to inspire, challenge & empower students in all their endeavors.
