Richfield City Mayor

The role of city mayor can vary from city to city. However, the mayor is usually the head of the city and may represent the city in front of other government bodies. A mayor also usually has a role in proposing a city budget that is approved by the city council. The budget influences the services the city provides to its residents. Mayors sometimes are voting members of city council, and in some cities the mayor is in charge of city council meetings.

I want to work together with you to envision our future and help all members of our community to thrive. I have deep roots in our community after thirty-three years of teaching in Richfield schools and most recently representing you as our at-large council member. In my time on the Richfield City Council, we have increased opportunities for quality affordable/accessible housing, embedded a social worker in the public safety department, implemented organized trash hauling and other sustainability measures, supported updates to our public parks and public art, increased multi-modal transportation and transit options, and passed a prevailing wage ordinance to support workers.
I believe that we should keep equity, sustainability, and quality in mind, as we: 1. Foster economic development that is inclusive and help small businesses thrive, 2. Protect our urban forests and green spaces, and 3. Work to redevelop the HUB shopping area.

All three priorities are investments in our future that strengthen our community.
We need to support our residents by providing justice, equity, and opportunity while at the same time supporting our police officers with the resources needed to keep us safe. Educational, recreational, and job opportunities for our youth are ways to help them thrive and strengthen our community. Police department wellness programs, embedded social workers, hiring a diverse group of officers, rigorous training, and examining our outcomes through an equity lens all promote public safety.
