I have and continue to advocate for our students and school district. I have worked with many of our school staff within our district and have volunteered for events that have been held by our district. I believe in working together and having respectful conversations. These conversations aren't always easy, but they are a must. I have gone inside classrooms to read and speak with students and building staff. I have worked to combat lies and spread truth about our district. Outside of the district, I have continuously worked to build a bridge within our community, so that we can become better neighbors to each other. I believe that I have been not only a good role model, but a good example of being a good neighbor as well.
1. Making sure that I give my honest input so that all students are fairly represented and heard.

2. Safety of our students and staff, as well as community at meetings

3. Continue to be authentic, hear our students, parents and community, while continuing to build a bridge for our communities.

These are things that's important to me. Some, are areas that I see for improvement, that I can be a valuable asset. I have no problem with speaking my mind and being respectful to everyone.
First, I will speak with staff and teachers to get their input of where they feel safety is needed most. The plan should always be to include those voices when making decisions. My plan is to encourage and uplift their voices and make sure that they are comfortable and that they always feel like they are being heard. Not just heard, but actually listened to.

I believe that experience matters. Having served the community for almost twelve years has allowed me to gain a strong understanding of school finances and operations which is crucial as our community continues to grow and experience difficult expansion challenges. As a seasoned finance executive, I bring valuable financial expertise to help ensure that the hard-earned resources of the community are best applied to support the mission of educating our children. I have been a full supporter of our community and its schools with four children completing their K-12 education here and one still going. I believe in our schools, our people and the value of public service.
We need to elevate student achievement. The District has had great innovation, but with the pandemic behind us and an administration committed to data and measurement, we are well positioned to advance the achievement of our students. We need to ensure that all students feel supported, welcome and enabled to achieve their potential. Addressing achievement and inclusion will go far to attracting students, but so will meeting our financial needs so we can better compete to attract talented staff.
Safety is a fundamental need since little learning can happen without it. As a school board, our main tools are budget and policy. Through these mechanisms we must continue to make necessary adjustments as the threat landscape evolves. I helped develop the referendum and supported a budget to fund secure entrances, video surveillance and other safety measures like cyber security. I will continue to solicit feedback and listen to our educators and support their safety needs.

Voting for a school board member is like hiring someone to represent you. As the only lawyer among the 12 candidates, I have been representing people since 1982. There's great skill in "representing" others--it takes communication skills, the ability to take complex issues and make them easy to understand, the ability to put aside your personal interests in favor those you represent, and backbone--the ability to advocate and to stick to your decisions. I have/can do all of that! I was a trial lawyer for nearly 30 years representing all kinds of clients--individuals, Fortune 100 companies, small businesses. On top of that, I've represented homeowners as an HOA president for 3 different HOAs, along with being on nonprofit boards.
1. Preparing our students for the workforce and society of the late 2020s/early 30s, which means not only instilling basics, but also a sense of curiosity and a desire to take risks with getting to know people who are "different" from them. 2. Creating effective strategies to deal with the looming educator/school counselor/therapist shortage--we've been relatively lucky but that will change. 3. Closing the gap in test scores that adversely affects our students of color--the gap is huge.
I will leave physical safety (active shooter prevention) to professionals. As for creating a safe learning environment, I think our educators are doing their best, but the key, as I see it, is in reinforcing every student's right to be free of bullying/harassment. This means dealing the underlying reasons why students bully--"pain begets pain." Students who harass others should be paired with vetted volunteers who can mentor to them the value of allowing everyone to live in peace.

I will collaborate with Board and administration, always putting students first. In District 112, I have been a board member and substitute teacher. I supported students in 112 as a foster parent, parent and now as grandparent. As a district resident for 35+ years, I will bring a calm and knowledgeable voice to the Board.

For 30+ years I worked for non-profits serving youth and families in roles ranging from direct care to CEO. Most recently, I spent ten years in a behavioral health system leading learning and development, strategic planning and continuous improvement. My life-long learning included a BS and MBA. Other credentials included an LSW (social work), SPHR (human resources) and LSS Master Black Belt (continuous improvement).
1. Improve learning results by enhancing the learning environment and educational approaches for students in all district schools.

2. Enhance physical and emotional safety for all by engaging students, school personnel, families and the community to create effective safety management at all schools and during school related activities.

3. Improve Board governance by providing clear direction, fostering leader accountability and championing community values to help assure student success.
My focus will be to promote Board action to support staff and teachers with resources to more effectively engage students, parents, colleagues, school and district leaders and community members (including safety professionals) to create a physically and emotionally safe place for all students to learn and prosper. During these challenging times, the Board must be proactive in supporting the school community to enhance safety, All students deserve to be physically and emotionally safe.

I was proud to grow and learn in this community for 13 years. As the child of two teachers, those years were marked by a constant view of life inside a classroom. I spent more than ten years working on Capitol Hill in DC and for nonprofits, learning how to communicate with all sorts of people. When I became a teacher myself in Baltimore, I learned how best to support teachers. Now, I own a small business that writes for teachers, local veterans and others. When it was time to move back to Minnesota, we researched every district in the area. We chose to come home because of ECCS’s many programs and because of this community. My kids are now proud students here too. I am eager to put all these layers of experience to work for all our kids.
1. Academic achievement for all. Every student is gifted and every student has needs. Every student has the right to a learning environment that supports their full academic potential. 2. Conduit of communication. Board members have an obligation to build real relationships throughout our community. Trust is built when our community members are heard. 3. Maximizing use of our resources. Our buildings must be run equitably as well, with resources allocated in the most prudent way possible.
As the parent of two elementary-aged students, nothing is more important than keeping them safe at school. To do this, I would listen to best practices. Experts in this field know what works best to keep our students safe. Safety also requires prepared staff. Not only prepared through drills, but prepared with supplies and training and whatever they tell us is necessary to keep our kids safe. We also must remain vigilant and never make any assumptions regarding the safety of our children.

I am the best candidate for a seat on the ECCS school board because I have lived in Chaska for 45 years. This has given me an opportunity to participate in the growth of our schools and community. I also have a BS and Masters degrees in elementary education. I spent my career teaching second and third graders in the Chaska schools, and had the privilege to work with many children and their families. I also was fortunate to teach many children whose parents I had previously taught. My teaching experience and history will allow me to make educated decisions that will positively impact our schools and community. Chaska is a thriving community which has helped produce our excellent schools. Thank you for your vote and for believing in me.
1. My top priority on the ECCS school board will be to always put student learning first! 2. I will collaborate with board members to make decisions that will enhance student success. 3. I will be an active voice to encourage inclusion of all students and foster relationships among staff, students, and parents to promote positive learning environments.
It is essential that all students and staff feel safe in our schools. As a school board member, I will help communicate policies to be implemented by administration and staff. I will also make myself available through email and school visits, to encourage staff to share any needs they may have. Board members often have opportunities to participate in committees and building meetings, which will further enhance the communication about any building issues. Safety will definitely be a priority!

I am running with three other candidates (Svetlana Kolesnikova, Dean Waymire, and Greg Petrie). If the four of us get elected, we will make positive changes to our district.

I’ve lived in our school district for 41 years and have two adult children who attended our schools from kindergarten through Chaska High School.

I speak Spanish and also served as Executive Vice President of a 150,000 member International trade association. My responsibilities were member retention, member development (overseeing the professional development program), and member acquisition.

I’m also the retired co-founder/owner of an advertising agency.

I’m in a unique position to guide our external communications and enrollment increase efforts.
Reverse declining test scores, reverse our negative enrollment trend, and stabilize our uncertain financial future.

At least 1/3 to 1/2 of our 3rd-8th and 11th graders can not read at grade level, nor can they meet the state standards in Math and Science.

Our team will take personal responsibility for positive change and has developed straight-forward solutions to improve academic performance, reverse our declining enrollment, and clarify our district’s uncertain financial future
We will make enforcing our anti-bullying policy a priority. If the current school board had taken that approach, our school district might not be operating under a federal consent decree. This stemmed from losing a lawsuit filed by six parties claiming racial bullying.

Taking personal responsibility at the board level and creating a positive, no-tolerance policy, and backing their discipline-related decisions, will help our staff and teachers maintain order in the classrooms and hallways.

I will ensure that the parents have a voice. I will ensure that our teachers have all the support and resources they need to educate our students. I have been a teacher and I understand the importance of lesson plans along with the laws of learning. Our teachers need to be able and allowed to do their job without being pressured by any new ideology. Our current school board does not operate as intended by our government. I am running with three other candidates who all see and understand the upside down structure in our school district. There are 4 of 7 seats open and if elected, we can effectively change the backward structure of who works for whom.
1.Parents should have a voice in their children’s school system. 2. Test Scores for our students are below grade level. Our teachers need to be supported with the tools they need to provide excellent academic instruction. 3. Uncertain Financial Future: Our district’s financial model is unsustainable. Even at full enrollment (16,500 school-age children living in our district attending our public schools), we would only generate $112 million.
Safety and Technology referendum. Only 10% of this referendum was spent on SAFETY!

https://four4112.com/blog-1/f/remember-the-security-and-technology-referendum

All candidates were invited by our district to participate in a training session in late August. We were informed that we were not supposed to have contact with teachers or staff. Most importantly we were told not to listen to parents. This is upside down logic. Our current board members have been corrupted by this training.
