I believe I am the right candidate for the Cambridge Isanti School Board. I have served on the Cambridge-Isanti School Board for the past twelve years; two years as Treasurer and the past ten years as Board Chair. During this time our Board has continued to improve communications with our community, staff and students. Through my leadership we have added community members to our Finance committee to have an open conversation on school funding. As a twelve-year member of the Facilities committee, we find ways to fund the repairs to our school sites and save money in the process. I will continue to work to be fiscally responsible while providing the best education possible for our students.
My top priority as a school board member will be to continue to work to include community members, parents, students and staff in our committees as much as possible.

I will continue to work to maintain a positive Fund Balance through continuing to push our local legislators to understand the value of the Cambridge-Isanti School district for our community and students.

I will continue to be a voice of reason in discussions, work to provide what is best for our students and staff.
I will continue to support the safety of our staff and students by continuing to be aware of what we are doing for our schools’ safety through our planning, policies and contingency plans. School Boards hold Administration responsible for school safety by being vigilant and present when discussion these issues. We provide the approvals for funding and staffing to insure adequate availability of resources. I will advocate for safety of all of our School Districts employees, students and visitors

I believe that my education, 41 year experience as a teacher, coach, AD, and administrator, and leadership background help make me a great school board candidate. I have a K-12 principal’s license, master’s degree in curriculum and instruction, social studies and physical education teaching licenses, coaching license, and am a certified athletics and activities administrator. I have been selected by my peers to be the President of the Minnesota Interscholastic Administrator’s Association, Minnesota State High School League Board of Directors, Chair of Communications, President of the Mississippi 8 Conference twice. My leadership experience has led to the honors of finalist for National AD of the Year, and Bluejackets Hall of Fame.

I want to continue to make a positive and significant difference for our students, families, public, and taxpayers. Support, care for, and encourage our administrators, teachers, and educational support personnel. With $9 billion dollars in the state bank, work with our legislature to increase state school funding, for the betterment of our students. When inflation is around 8% and school funding is increased by 2% it makes it difficult to balance school budgets.

I have been fortunate to be involved in emergency action planning for our schools, and athletics and activities department. Each of our school teams have emergency action plans. It is vitally important that all school personnel know what to do in emergencies. As a school board member I would work with administration and school staff, to help ensure the safety of our students, families, public, and school employees during the school day and at after school practices and events.

After working with teenagers for the better part of the last 10 years, I realized the role I can play in affecting positive change in my community and the enthusiasm I hold for advocating for students. I’ve seen the impact students can make in their own communities when provided with the right resources and guidance, and see a great opportunity for the Cambridge-Isanti School District. I think it is important to consider as many opinions and experiences as possible when making district-wide decisions, and believe I will bring a unique and fresh perspective to the table in that way.
My top priorities go hand-in-hand - equity and accessibility. I believe that through student and community involvement, proper allocation of resources, and research-backed solutions, we can improve the education experience for every student while also providing an accessible and equitable learning environment. In addition, addressing bullying is high on my list of priorities, and I look forward to bringing research-backed solutions to the table.
Creating a school environment where every person feels safe and valued is incredibly important to me - and I believe it is best accomplished by fostering transparency and empowering each person to stand up for themselves. One of the CI Character Traits is respect - and really digging into mutual respect between all parties is the first step towards promoting safety in our schools.
